I helped relocate a grandmother to Roswell in 1990 & was 18 at the time. I stayed for 10 months. There wasnt really much to do, so most kids would congregate & "cruise main street"(I myself after 2 cruises found other avenues of entertainment with fellow co-workers). A few months after my arrival, I met a male cousin who had been sent to Roswell that year to get him away from Los Angeles Gangs. He opted to cruise main & hang with certain "clique" & within a few years after I left, he was shot down at a party. Every town has its crime problems, even an all american town like Roswell. Like any town, its a matter of who you choose to associate with, that can expose you to trouble. For a city of 50,000, I feel Roswell needs improvement in offering alternatives for its youth so they dont become another headline in the newspaper. People moving to a smaller town like Roswell should also consider Job opportunities. In 1990, there was TMC a bus Mfg. Co, Levis, couple of Hospitals, & Grocery stores as major employers. Now I hear Levis is closed, but there is a major cheese factory. Sometimes though, I day dream of retiring to a nice house in the middle of a pecan orchard or one of those cool houses in the historic district. Good luck with the family move.
