Today is the anniversary of the date in 1964 when Jeopardy, the "thinking person's game show," first appeared on television. Today is also the anniversary of the date in 1858 when the first pencil with an eraser top was patented by Hyman Lipman. Thursday is April Fools Day and National Fun at Work Day. Friday is Good Friday, as well as Reconciliation Day. Columnist Ann Landers suggests that April 2 be set aside to write that letter or make that phone call to mend a broken relationship. Life is too short to hold grudges and forgiving can be enormously life-enhancing. Sunday is Easter, and it is also the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. Remember to "spring forward" and set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night! WHAT'S HAPPENING? Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. storytimes, as well as Saturday morning's 10:00 storytime, celebrate Easter. The fun-filled celebration will include stories, and participants will make Easter bunnies and Easter eggs. BOOK TALK The library's Rosie Klopfer provides this week's library information. If you want to take some great Easter photos, check out the library for some help. The library has added Brian Ratty's "On Assignment" 90-minute video series on photography, designed for anyone wishing to understand the techniques and craft of photography. "The Video Guide to 35mm Photography" covers cameras, shutter speeds, light meters, lenses, and different types of pictures. "Photographic Design" explains the principles of good photographic composition by teaching framing, light direction, quality, and psychology of color. "Photographic Light" covers how light works and how to manipulate it in your pictures. The camera is just a tool. See what you can do with it by taking advantage of the help available in this video series and other materials at the library. Additional resources include "Popular Photography Magazine"; "Photography for Dummies," by Russell Hart; "Black and White Portrait Photography," by Helen Boursier; "Jim Zuckerman's Secrets of Color In Photography"; "Telephoto Lens Photography," by Rob Sheppard; "Photography 101," a four-volume video series; and "Sell & Resell Your Photos," by Rohn Engh. DID YOU KNOW? Here's a few little known tidbits of information. The Main Library at Indiana University sinks over an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building. The cruise line, Queen Elizabeth II, moves only six inches for each gallon of diesel that it burns. You might also consider the fact that when Heinz ketchup leaves the bottle, it travels at a rate of 25 miles - per year! THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Here's another quote from someone who probably should have thought a bit more before speaking. This one is from former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower: "Things are more like they are now than they ever were before." JUDY ARMSTRONG, 624-7276
