Former Lion Kings by TAT

My Dad was not a member of the Safari Club Int., however he did instruct me not to shoot at sittin’ ducks. I gave up ‘big’ game hunting up atop the ‘Cap’ back in ‘52 when I drew my 30-30 down on a beautiful standing antelope and couldn’t pull the trigger. Since then it’s been fowl and other small moving game animals. Doves with a 20 will separate the men from the boys.

When only a boy, Dad also tried to teach me not to kick a fella when he’s down.

Suffices to report Herb Atkinson was fined $1482 for shooting a mountain lion (cougar ) out of season. The fact that he wasn’t fined more heavily or had his rifle or vehicle confiscated for all the ancillary subterfuge and violations is once again a matter of who you know and who you blow.

Since the last edition it’s been roumored Safari Club International has suspended Herb for 2 years with 2 more years of probation.

The most heinous part of this crime was he committed it in the presence of his daughters. Maybe they’re inured.

Perhaps if he had shown a bit more remorse in court, I wouldn’t be writing this story.

Sorry Pop, I boot downers.
