The Roswell Interarts Organization (RIO) is pleased to announce that Westinghouse Corporation has made a donation of $1000.00 to RIO’s Classical Radio Campaign. This brings the radio fund’s balance to $6000.00, only $1000.00 short of the amount necessary to purchase the translator equipment required to have classical radio on the air in Roswell twenty-four hours per day. The signal will come from KHFM in Albuquerque which provides twenty-four hour classical music and can now be heard via translators in Ruidoso, Raton, Santa Fe, and Conchas Lake. KHFM provides programs such as the Wall Street Journal Report, Classics for Kids, and a statewide arts calendar. application to become the license RIO’s holder for a translator station for KHFM is currently under review by the FCC, and should be approved within the next month.

RIO is very excited about this latest donation because KHFM is considering broadcasting the Roswell Symphony Orchestra’s Labor Day concert live. Of course, this is contingent upon purchasing and installing the translator equipment and assuring it is operational in time for the Labor Day holiday.

Currently, RIO is conducting a major donor campaign to collect the remaining necessary funds to bring classical radio to Roswell. If your business wishes to join this campaign by making a donation, please contact Brinkman Randle at 622-2031 or Georgellen Burnett at 347-7272 or send your tax deductible contributions to Roswell Interarts Organization, Radio Fund, P.O. Box 2271, Roswell, New Mexico 88202-2271.

If you want to learn more about how you can become a supporter of the arts in Roswell, join us at our next board meeting on Monday, August 18, 1997, at 6:00 pm at the Roswell Adult Center. Only with your support can RIO work to fulfill its mission to make art part of daily life in Roswell.
