Habitat for Humanity of Roswell Ground BreakingIn June, Habitat for Humanity of Roswell dedicated the first house built in our community. On August 23 Nations Bank of Roswell donated $8,300 to the Habitat for Humanity of Roswell to be used for the building of more houses. Not only did Nations Bank contribute house building dollars; employees of Nations Bank volunteered their time and talents to dig a foundation at 601 & 603 S. Michigan. The trenches were dug to make way for three firm foundations, as Habitat for Humanity of Roswell and dedicated volunteers of Roswell continue to build shelter, relationships and community. THANK YOU
For many people in Roswell, the fruit of their labor is substandard housing. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with the working poor to develop low-cost, no interest housing. Working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity means everyone wins: Can you help? We need the following:
Tom MacMillan, President of the Habitat for Humanity of Roswell informed the board that he will be leaving Roswell to accept a position with a church in Ft. Myers, Fl. He and his family will be in Florida on October 11 His last Sunday at his current church will be October 5. We wish Tom and his family the best of luck. Tom MacMillan asked Alan Wagman to consider replacing him as President of the Habitat for Humanity of Roswell. Mr. Wagman accepted. Alan has been on the HfH board of directors for a short time, but this does not mean he does not have experience with Habitat. He and his wife were International Partners (volunteers) with Habitat affiliates in Africa, in Burundi and Uganda. Alan believes that it is vital that we make the community-in-need -- the low income community -- an integral part of the Habitats activities. Mr. Wagman said, "If we can involve the entire community in working together, learning from each other and doing what we openly avow as Gods work, all the rest is detail and will fall into place." NEW MEMBERSAt the August Board meeting, two people were voted into the HfH Board and both accepted the responsibility to serve on the Board. They are Gary Baker and Janet Sanders. Gary Baker is a local businessman and contractor. Gary will be responsible for the construction projects and the work crews. Janet Sanders is the Clerk Specialist at the New Mexico Commission for the Blind. Janet will be responsible for the newsletter and the public relations for Habitat. "Welcome to the Board of Directors. We appreciate your generosity and willingness to be a partner with Habitat for Humanity of Roswell."
