This department performs routine and preventive maintenance on approximately 280 miles of streets and 260 miles of alleys. They also perform heavy construction tasks and related duties for other departments. The list of duties includes the following: street overlay program, pothole and utility trench patching, street sweeping, drainage channel maintenance with mowing and herbicides, crack seal, chip seal, producing aggregate at the crusher, producing street signs and markings and traffic light maintenance. They are also called on to provide services such as building demolition.
