COMMUNITY SPECIAL EVENTS

KITE FESTIVAL

Come to the Yucca Recreation Center and learn how to make your own homemade kite. In the afternoon all participants will go to the Cielo Grande Soccer Complex for high flying fun.

EASTER EGG HUNT

Come to Spring River Park and Zoo for the city’s largest egg hunt. Prizes and giveaways will be given out and there is no charge for the event. The age groups for the hunt are: 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 & 9-10. The train and carousel will be running from 11:00 - 12:00 PM for great family entertainment. Date: April 14-Gates open at 9:45AM- Hunt begins at 10:00 AM. "Everyone comes out a winner"

RUN, WALK & ROLL FOR PEACE - APRIL 7

RACE FOR THE ZOO - MAY 5

This event consists of a 2 mile walk, 2 mile run, & a 10K walk and 10K run. For more information contact Bob Edwards, Roswell Runners Club 627-5507.

SUMMER BIATHLON-MAY 12

This event consists of 5K Run with 2 shooting stops - All equipment is provided with awards for all ages. The total distance is 5k and the total shots made is 10. A .22 rifle is used, does not kick back and is easy to shoot. Free pre-race clinic is required & t-shirts are provided. The cost will be $15.00 for those pre-registering until May 9th. After May 9th, the cost will be $18.00. Registration forms at Rec. Dept. - 1101 W. 4th.

SUMMER FUN & FITNESS

In an effort to help promote fitness in the community, a series of fun and fitness runs/walks have been scheduled for this summer. Meet at the Cielo Grande Recreation Area (College & Montana) at 8:00 a.m. An emphasis on proper warm-up, exercise, and cool down will be given to enhance total fitness. The distances (from 1-6 miles) can be walked or jogged. T-shirts to everyone who participates on 4 of the seven dates. May 19, June 2, June 16, June 30, July 14, July 28, Aug. 11 There will be a one time registration fee of $5.00. A speaker will be on hand to give an informational talk.

ROSWELL GAMES TRACK AND FIELD

The Yucca Recreation Center is a recreational center that is used mainly by the youth of the community. Programs are scheduled to reflect the growing needs in the community

SPRING BREAK VACATION FUN PROGRAM - MARCH 23 - 30, 2001

Children ages 5 - 13 can come to the Yucca Recreation Center on school vacation days. There will be supervised games, sports, and field trips for different age groups throughout the day. Bring a sack lunch or money to buy lunch from the concession stand.
Cost: $6.00 for first child and $5.00 for 2nd child. Daily 7:45 - 5:30 PM.

The Vacation Fun Program is in effect for all in-service days. 7:45-5:30PM / $6 DAILY

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The children are supervised and participate in educational and recreational activities. Cost $2 per child per day. It is our commitment to make this program fun, exciting & educational for your child.

For those families that are Home Schooling their children - this is the class for you. The Home School P.E. Program is designed to fill the need for a structured physical education program for all school age children who are enrolled in the Home School Program. YUCCA SWIM TEAM

This is the 2nd Year of the Swim Team and applicants must have strong swimming skills to participate. Registration will be held May 29-June1st. Cost:$15.00 - (Includes Shirt, Transportation, Awards) Coach: Sara Hall

SUMMER YOUTH SOCCER 5 V 5 LEAGUE

The youth of Roswell will have the opportunity to continue in soccer year round and keep up their skills. Boys & Girls Age Groups: 6-8; 9-10; 11-12; & 13-14 $70.00 per team -Birth Certificate Required Registration Deadline: May 25. Games Start: June 11 - Coordinator: Mary Beardsley

LIFE SKILLS CLASS FOR YOUTH

Youth will learn important life skills. Topics include juvenile delinquency, gangs, substance abuse, etc. No Cost. Mondays - 3:30 -4:30 PM. Open to youth over the age of 8. Instructor: Linda Ray- Counseling Associates, Inc.

PARENT-TOT ART

A special time for little ones to explore all those fun mess projects parents avoid at home! Tots will experiment with things like paper mache, plaster, glue, paint & chalk. Tues:10:00 am Cost: $10 Instructor: Patricia Melendez

PRESCHOOL TUMBLING

Preschoolers will develop strength, flexibility, coordination listening skills, and social skills through the use of basic tumbling and gymnastics. Saturday 10:00-10:30 a.m. Cost: $15.00 month.

BEGINNING & INTERMEDIATE TUMBLING

A youth Mariachi Group has been formed for area youth-grade school college age who are interested with a Mariachi Group. S.O.Y. (Saving Our Youth) purpose is to give local youth an opportunity to learn new music. Mon.6:00-7:00PM Tues.6:00-8:00 PM.

TEEN LEADERSHIP ROSWELL

The 8th Annual Teen Leadership Roswell Workshop will be held March 16-17. The Leadership Roswell Alumni Association sponsors to provide experiences, knowledge and skills that develop leadership capabilities. Thirty will be chosen from the Roswell Area. It will be a two day program that will take place at a ropes course and the Yucca Recreation Center. A class project will be selected. Cost will be $25.00 & scholarships may be available. FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Yucca Recreation Center is hosting a 4 on 4 Flag Football League. The roster will have 6 on a team. The ages are 13-15, 16-18, 19-27, 28-40, and 41-Up Men’s, women’s and co-ed. The cost per team is $100. Registration deadline March 9th. Games Start March 14th . Coordinator: Lisa Schanck

PECOS VALLEY STAMPEDE

The 20th Annual Pecos Valley Stampede will be held Sat. March 24th with a ½ Marathon run, 10K run, 2 mile run & 2 mile walk at Cahoon Park . Entry fee is $20.00 if received by March 13th, then it becomes $25.00. For info. call 627-5507.

SPRING VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Come join our organized league for ages 13 and over. There will be Powerball, Competitive and Recreational divisions. Spring Volleyball League registration runs from March 1-March 14-Season start March 19th. Cost is $130 per team

March 23-April 9, Spring Classes start April 9th.
