Spring winds beckon the kite flyer in kids and in adults alike. Join in the fun of the ancient art of kite maneuvering, March 29" when the Yucca Recreation Center hosts its annual kite festival and "fun fly." .
Thursday, March 29 residents can learn how to construct their own kite in a workshop to be held between 9a.m. and 12:00p.m. at the Yucca Center, 500 S. Richardson Street. The class will be instructed by Lynn Sanchez and Patricia Melendez, who take participants through the construction of a basic wing shaped kite. Materials (plastic canvas, dowel sticks, string, markers) are provided by the Yucca and the class is free of charge.
The Yucca also hosts a fun fly immediately following the workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cielo Grande Soccer Field weather permitting. At this time, residents are. invited to bring their wind toys and celebrate "everything that goes up in the air" including kites of all types, parachute toys, windsocks, bubbles, and inflatables. This is the 11th year that the Roswell Recreation Department has hosted a fun fly, attracting some 100 fliers each year.
