The purchasing activities of the City represent a public trust as well as a business necessity. The department is responsible for the procurement of services, construction and items of tangible personal property for the City, as well as the management and disposal of surplus. This requires the application and adherence to the Procurement Code of the State of New Mexico in the purchasing policies and practices for the City. The purposes of the Procurement Code are to provide for the fair and equitable treatment of all persons involved in public procurement, to maximize the purchasing value of public funds and to provide safeguards for maintaining a procurement system of quality and integrity. The purchasing department strongly adheres to each of these purposes. The employees handle a variety of functions, including input and creation of purchase orders, advertising for bids and proposals, and storing various inventory items in the warehouse until needed by other departments.
