As an educational institution, the mission of the Roswell Museum and Art Center is to increase public knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of art, cultural change, and history with a particular focus on the Southwest and its place within a broader American society. To achieve its purpose, the Museum acquires and preserves material culture focusing on art and history, produces related exhibits, educational programs, and publications which expand knowledge of the region, and serves as a source for intellectual and creative stimulation.
Important items occurring over the past year: 1) A major capital campaign towards building a 10,000 sq. ft. education wing in memory of Patricia Lubben Bassett; 2) Grants from the Healy and O'Shaunnessy Foundations ($50,000) in support of programming; 3) The gifts of two major paintings by Henriette Wyeth, and fifty-four serigraphs by Louie Ewing for the permanent collection.
