Sunday is also the day that Daylight Saving Time ends, so remember to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night: Spring Forward, Fall Back! Monday is National Authors' Day, observed since 1929 to "show appreciation of the men and women who have made American literature possible." You can show your appreciation by celebrating National Family Literacy Day on Monday and reading a book together as a family! WHAT'S HAPPENING? Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. storytimes feature non-scary Halloween stories and a variety of crafts. There will be no Saturday morning storytime this week. Don't forget the Second Annual Mystery Night, sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Roswell Community Little Theater, Inc., at the Library, this Saturday, October 30. Come in costume and ready for food, fun, and intrigue, beginning with hors d'oeuvres at 6:30, followed by a delicious dinner catered by the Roswell Job Corps at 7:00 and a performance of "Murder at the Banquet" following dinner. BOOK TALK Children's Librarian Mary Stickford provides this week's book information. October is National Clock Month. Adults who never have enough time can learn how to make more of it with titles including "Getting Out From Under: Redefining Your Priorities In an Overwhelming World," "ABC Time Tips," "Don't Go To Work Unless It's Fun!: State-of-the-Heart Time Management," and "Timing Is Everything: Turning Your Seasons of Success Into Maximum Opportunities." When you've made time to relax try these titles to help you maximize the benefits of that time: on cassette, "Relax: You May Only Have a Few Minutes Left!" and on video, "Massage-The Mind Body Connection." Once you're relaxed, you can start using your new-found time to work on those homemade Christmas gifts. Here are some books to help you get started: "Easy and Elegant Christmas Crafts: 25 Simple Projects With Step-by-Step Instructions," "Christmas Crafts Year-Round: 60 Great Gifts You Can Make From January To December," and for kids, "175 Easy-To-Do Christmas Crafts." If you want to add a foreign touch to your celebration, the library has a multitude of books about Christmas in other countries, including the Ukraine, Switzerland, the Philippines, Ireland, and the Holy Land. And don't forget the tastes of Christmas in cookbooks such as "Our Best Christmas Recipes" or "Rose's Christmas Cookies." Whatever you're looking for, plan to spend some time with us at your Roswell Public Library! DID YOU KNOW? Here are a few pieces of "number" trivia that might interest you. The state with the highest percentage of people who walk to work is Alaska. The percentage of Africa that is wilderness is 28%. Amazingly, 28% of the United States is wilderness. The cost of raising a medium-sized dog to the age of eleven is $6,400. The average number of people airborne over the United States any given hour is 61,000. If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar. If you multiply 111,111,111 times 111,111,111, the answer is 12,345,678,987,654,321! THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Edward Abbey said, "When a man's best friend is his dog, that dog has a problem."
