Welcome to Home-Based Business Week, National School Lunch Week, National Wildlife Week, and National Pet Peeve Week. Today is International Moment of Frustration Scream Day. To share our frustrations, citizens of the world can go outdoors at twelve hundred hours Greenwich time and scream for 30 seconds.

Wednesday is National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work Day and National Train Your Brain Day. You can expand your brain power by learning some new thinking tools and techniques and cuddle your teddy bear to help relieve the stress!

Friday is National Grouch Day, as well as My Mom Is A Student Day. On this day, kids can show their support to their moms by treating them with new school supplies or by fixing them a school lunch with a supportive note in it!

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. storytimes are about family and include a family mural craft. There will be no Saturday morning storytime this week because of the book sale.

The annual Altrusa/Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held on this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 15-17. Thousands of books will be available for you to purchase, most of them priced at 75 cents an inch. Friday's preview sale runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with an admission of $2.00 per person or no admission for members of the Friends of the Library. Saturday, the sale runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., with no admission charge. Sunday's sale runs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with no admission charge, and you can purchase a bag of books for just $2.00!

Come in costume and ready for food, fun, and intrigue at the Second Annual Mystery Night at the Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Roswell Community Little Theater, Inc. The fun begins with hors d'oeuvres at 6:30, followed by a delicious dinner catered by the Roswell Job Corps at 7:00 and a performance of "Murder at the Banquet" following dinner. Cost for this great evening is just $40 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the library at 622-7101 or by mailing your request and check to the Friends of the Roswell Public Library, 301 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, NM 88201. While you're at it, why not include a check for membership in the Friends and support the library all year long!

BOOK TALK

The library's Mary Beth Wright provides this week's book information. Did you ever wake up, look around your room or home, and decide your surroundings needed to be changed because they were Blah! If so, the library can help you!

"Decorating On a Shoestring" by Gwen Ellis and JoAnn Janssen is a book that will help you turn your dull and dreary home into a house full of color, character, and class. All of these nifty decorating tips can be done with little or no expense!

If you enjoy touring flea markets, antique malls, and a variety of second-hand sales - estate, tag, yard, church, garage, to create your own unique style of decorating, you would like Rachel Ashwell's "Shabby Chic-Treasure and Decorating Guide." To decorate your home in colors that reflect how you feel and how you want others to feel when entering each room, check out Leatrice Eiseman's "Colors for Your Every Mood: Discover Your True Decorating Colors."

The library has books that offer ideas on making your home or room reflect your own distinctive, original look that can be down-to-earth, yet truly exquisite. To cure those decorating blahs, visit your Roswell Public Library!

DID YOU KNOW?

According to New York clothier and tailor Martin Greenfield, dress shirts last longer if they are washed after each wearing. Using a shirt more than once before laundering ingrains collars and cuffs with dirt that is almost impossible to remove without scrubbing. Repeated scrubbing rapidly destroys the fabric.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: "The two great tests of character are wealth and poverty." (unknown)
