Welcome to National Agriculture Week, National Sports Trivia Week, and National Manufacturing Week. Wednesday is Saint Patrick's Day, and Saturday is National Agriculture Day, National Quilting Day, and Proposal Day (if you're single and looking to marry, this is the day to pop the question).

Saturday is also the beginning of spring and Smile Rejuvenation Day. Begin spring with a smile - smiling improves your physical appearance and your mental condition!

Sunday is Single Parents Day, and Monday is As Young As You Feel Day. It is also National Goof Off Day, so stop acting your chronological age (or older) and enjoy some good-humored fun!

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Don't forget to wear green for Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. St. Patrick's Day storytimes. Crafts will include shamrock cards and mobiles. Saturday morning's 10:00 storytime celebrates National Nutrition Month with stories and activities about food, including a food pyramid craft.

BOOK TALK

The library's Lorena Blanco provides this week's book information. Warmer temperatures send people outdoors to participate in their favorite activities. Before heading out to the garden, the park, or bicycling, head to your Roswell Public Library for a versatile way to keep up with the latest best sellers.

The library offers a variety of alternatives to traditional books. By popping a "talking book" in a portable stereo, you can take the latest bestsellers on the road with you as you take advantage of the great weather. Be sure and check out the newest thrillers on tape. "Taltos," by perennial favorite Anne Rice, and "Gramma," by Stephen King, are sure to keep your mind entertained while your hands are busy in the garden.

If staying out of the wind is what you have in mind, the paperback book selection will make it easy to read a page or two throughout your busy day. The convenient paperbacks can be tucked into a bag or backpack for a quick mental vacation. Paperbacks are available for all age groups.

Whether you want romance or adventure or sci-fi, it's all on the shelves at the library. For a romantic escape, try the new Harlequin Historical Romances, which will take you to another time and place. If you are searching for some comedy, try our new titles by Jill Churchill. "A Quiche Before Dying," "From Here to Paternity," "War and Peas," and "Silence of the Hams" are just a few of the selections to brighten your day. For the younger set, the newest adventures of "Hank the Cowdog" will keep children busy while on Spring Break or on the road.

The next time you're looking for an alternative form of entertainment, look to your Roswell Public Library. You'll discover the many shapes a book can take to keep you entertained.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you are planning to tackle some home projects now that spring is here, remember that improper use of ladders at home sends more than half a million people to emergency rooms or doctors' offices every year. According to recommendations from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, you should use the right length of ladder - usually a stepladder or stepstool indoors, and a taller ladder outside. Be sure to inspect the ladder before using it!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: For the next few weeks, we'll be using quotes that the people quoted probably wish they had thought about more. This one comes from Brooke Shields, during an interview to become spokesperson for a federal anti-smoking campaign: "Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life."
