Today
is Good Samaritan Involvement Day, a day to emphasize the importance of
unselfish aid to those who need it. Today
is also National Open an Umbrella Indoors Day.
Wednesday is the anniversary of the day in 1950 when the Federal Bureau
of Investigation instituted the “10 Most Wanted Fugitives” list in an effort
to publicize particularly dangerous criminals who were at large.
Between 1950 and 1998, 454 fugitives appeared on the list; 130 were
captured. Usually, the only way to
get off the list is to die or be captured. Thursday
is the Ides of March, the day that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C.,
and it is also National Brutus Day, reminding us that intrigue, plotting and
back-stabbing are still around! WHAT'S
HAPPENING?
Think
Green is the theme for Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 story times, for
participants will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in stories and crafts.
Have you ever seen a cherry pitter, whetstone, or darning egg?
These are some of the items that will be used for the "what is
it?" game at Saturday morning’s
10:00 story time celebrating Women's History Month.
During this unique experience, participants will learn to do things the
old fashioned way -- use a slaw board, write with a dip pen, and more. We would
welcome non-refundable donations of peculiar items from your kitchen junk drawer
or shed for our guessing game. BOOK
TALK
Librarian Lee Harbach provides this week's book information. When
you drive by or come into the library, you will see that we are in the middle of
enlarging the building. All this activity has made me think of interior
decorating. When I put that subject into our online catalog, I found that
we have 223 books and magazines on the subject. Four of the newest are
“Rancho Deluxe: Rustic Dreams And Real Western Living,” “Real Life
Decorating,” “Two-Hour No-sew Decorating,” and “Better Homes And Gardens
Flea Market Decorating.”
As you can see, these books cover a wide range of tastes and styles. If
you are trying to decide on what you want to do to change your home, this is the
place to come before you begin. You will be able to learn about color and
painting techniques, furnishings and draperies that suit your taste.
Without spending a penny, you will be able to get a lot of expert advice and
plan the most efficient and economical use of your time and money to achieve
that beautiful new look for your home. DID
