Welcome
to February, which is American Heart Month, Black History Month, Celebration of
Chocolate Month, International Expect Success Month, National Cherry Month,
National Sign Up For Summer Camp Month, National Snack Food Month, National
Weddings Month, National Wild Bird Feeding Month, Plant the Seeds of Greatness
Month, Wise Health Consumer Month, and Library Lovers’ Month.
Today is Pay-A-Compliment Day, which
encourages us to make someone feel a little happier by practicing this simple
act of kindness and paying a compliment to family members, co-workers, or a
stranger we pass on the street.
Wednesday is the anniversary of the day in
1827 when renowned French danseuse Mme Francisquy Hutin at the Bowery Theater in
New York introduced ballet to the United States.
A minor scandal erupted when the ladies in the lower boxes left the
theater upon viewing the light and scanty attire of Mme Hutin and her troupe.
Thursday
is Laugh and Grow Rich Day, in recognition of laughter’s power to add to the
bottom line. People are more
effective and tend to remember things better when they laugh, and laughter helps
to reduce employee turnover rate.
Sunday is Motivaction Day, which reminds us
that it takes both goals (motives) and action to produce results!
Monday is Lost Penny Day, a day to put all of those pennies stashed in
candy dishes, bowls, and jars into action by donating them to a worthy charity. WHAT'S
HAPPENING?
At Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 story
times, participants will learn about penguins in stories and crafts.
Saturday morning’s 10:00 story time features a tiger story and craft
time.
Have you ever felt as if you are just sitting on a shelf, and life
is passing you by? February at the Roswell Public Library is Love a Lonely Book
Month. Many books, audio cassette, and videos have not been held, read, listened
to, or seen in the past months, and they are lonely. February is the month to
browse the stacks and view the displays for lonely materials at your library.
You might find a treasure that you love among our lonely books and materials.
Come by your Roswell Public Library and hug a lonely book today! BOOK
TALK
The
library’s Rosie Klopfer provides this week's book information.
Need help with your New Year's Resolutions?
We can help. If you
resolution was for a healthy lifestyle, check out “A Race for Life,” whose
author Ruth Heidrich, Ph.D., survived breast cancer to become one of the ten
fittest women in America. Marilu
Henner has several books to check out. “Healthy
Life Kitchen” describes healthy and tasty alternative dishes that fit
perfectly into our new lifestyles. The book includes recipes for pancakes,
fettuccine, meat loaf, and Chocolate -- pudding, cake and cookies.
Anyone could stay on this diet. “The Good Morning America Cut the
Calories Cookbook” was a result of a contest, which received 70,000 requests
for the recipes. One thousand viewers turned in original recipes, the most
popular being cheesecakes, trifles and chicken.
The
following health magazines might also help: “Men's Health,” “Parents,”
“Parenting,” “Prevention,” and “Self.” “The Body Clock Guide To
Better Health” by Michael Smolensky, “Fit For Life, A New Beginning Your
Complete Diet And Health Plan For The Millennium” by Harvey Diamond, and
“Curing Everyday Aliments The Natural Way” by Reader' Digest are a few of
the new medical books to help
us stay fit so that we can make more resolutions next year. DID
YOU KNOW?
According to a study by Harvard Medical
School, most women prefer men with average builds.
Women were shown photographs of men with average muscles and men with 30
pounds of bulging muscles. More
women preferred the less-muscled men’s physiques. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: "Talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand.” (unknown) JUDY ARMSTRONG, 624-7276
