Happy Birthday, America! In addition to Independence Day and the birth of a new nation in 1776, today is also the anniversary of the day in 1895 when the poem, "America the Beautiful" by Katherine Lee Bates, was first published.

July celebrates Anti-Boredom Month, National Bison Month, National Foreign Language Month, National Hot Dog Month, National July Belongs to Blueberries Month, National Mobility Month, National Purposeful Parenting Month, and National Recreation and Parks Month.

This is Music For Life Week, which encourages everyone to use music to accompany and ease work, for consolation and comfort, for inspiration and nurture, and for good humor!

Thursday is Take Your Webmaster to Lunch Day, Friday is Father-Daughter Take a Walk Together Day, and Monday is Don’t Step On a Bee Day (going barefoot can be dangerous)! The library will be closed on July 4.

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

At Wednesday morning’s 10:00 "Nutrition" story time, participants will join Home Economist Amie Green to learn about healthy food choices, and take home crafts include a food pyramid and an apple necklace. Wednesday’s 3:30 p.m. story time celebrates birthdays with balloons and a cupcake craft.

Participants at Saturday morning’s 10:00 Chili story time will hear "hot" stories and make chili crowns and necklaces.

BOOK TALK

Librarian Mary Beth Wright provides this week’s book information. Do you remember those lazy summer days when, as a kid, you stretched out in the backyard, watched the clouds go by, and pondered those unanswerable questions? Well, your Roswell Public Library can help you answer those questions!

Bill McLain has written a witty, delightful, and informative collection of facts in "Do Fish Drink Water? Puzzling and Improbably Questions and Answers." This book offers a range of information from useful to unusual to comical. Whether you want to know the last song the musicians played on the "Titanic" or the first novel written on a typewriter, this is the book for you!

"Big Questions Little Kids Ask" is another book to help answer those never-ending inquiries ("WHY?") from your children. Dr. Rita Book offers information to satisfy and encourage a young child’s natural curiosity. If you prefer a video, check out "How It’s Done: From Roller Coasters to Ice Cream," written and produced by Michael A. Kalush and Steve Wittbrodt.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you’re fighting clutter, here’s some advice from "Stephanie Winston’s Organized Executive" about what annoying pieces of paper to keep and for how long! You can discard after one month deposit slips and credit card receipts (after checking them against monthly statements) and receipts for any items you don’t plan to return - unless they have warranties or are tax deductible.

After one year, you can discard monthly bank and credit card statements, pay stubs, monthly mortgage and investment statements (after reconciling with the annual summary), and telephone and utility bills - as long as you don’t need them to prove your business expenses.

You should hold until sold items such as confirmation slips for securities, real estate deeds, home-improvement records, and receipts for big-ticket items with replacement costs that exceed your home insurance deductible. And forever file away in a fireproof home safe or safe deposit box your tax returns, birth certificates, citizenship papers, marriage and/or divorce certificates, military records, wills (original copy at home or with your lawyer), and current insurance policies.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: "A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well." (unknown)
