Welcome to Anonymous Giving Week, during which you can celebrate the true spirit of giving and experience the joy of random acts of kindness by sharing your time, talent, and treasure. This is also National Agriculture Week, National Poison Prevention Week, National Sports Trivia Week, and National Spring Fever Week! Today is Flower Day, so you can begin your anonymous giving by sharing a flower or plant with a friend, coworker, hospital, or school. Wednesday is As Young As You Feel Day, which encourages us to stop acting our chronological ages and start feeling peppy! To help us do that, Wednesday is also National Goof-Off Day, a day of relaxation and a time for some good-humored fun and good-natured silliness! Saturday is Pecan Day, the anniversary of the day in 1775 when George Washington planted pecan trees (a gift from Thomas Jefferson) at Mount Vernon. The pecan, native to southern North American and first cultivated by American Indians, is called "America's own nut." If none of these opportunities to celebrate is your "cup of tea," then you can look forward to Sunday, which is Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. Perhaps, we can call it Check Out Your Roswell Public Library Day! WHAT'S HAPPENING? At Wednesday's 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. story times, children can start spring with a shower of stories and make a rain mobile. Saturday morning's 10:00 Safety story time features rules for safe living and stoplight and band-aid crafts. BOOK TALK Spring is the time when we all start thinking about getting in shape for summer, and the Roswell Public Library has a large collection of material dealing with exercise. Books and videos cover everything you've always wanted to know about the subject, from bodybuilding to exercise for toddlers. Some deal with specific health concerns, such as pregnancy or heart disease. For children, two of the newest are the "Children's Book of Yoga and Animal Fun," which is geared for toddlers. They are actually exercising while they play at imitating various animals in the book. "The Tae-Bo Way" and "Stronger Arms and Upper Body" are among several new titles for the healthy athletic person. Other videos and books are available for building strength and developing various parts of the body. "Exercise Rx" is an excellent source for preventing sports injuries, and "Health for Life" reveals secrets of Tibetan ayurveda. You can even get fit while you sit. "Healing Back Pain Naturally" and "Heal Your Heart" are just two resources that can be of help to those with health problems or limitations. Whatever your condition, make the Roswell Public Library your first stop on the road to an active and healthy summer! DID YOU KNOW? To help you get in shape for the summer, here are a couple of diet tips from "Bottom Line Personal." If you're trying to lose weight, eat within five hours of your last meal. If you go five hours without eating, you will get so hungry that you will no longer stay focused on weight loss and may end up eating anything and everything in sight. For dieting success, organize your kitchen. A messy cooking area makes it too tempting to order a pizza instead of cooking a meal! THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: "Morning people: Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Night people: Anybody who goes to bed the same day they got up is a quitter."
