WELCOME
Since 1906, the staff of the Library has been welcoming patrons; first to the Carnegie Library, and since 1978, to the Roswell Public Library at 301 North Pennsylvania. Our goal is to provide for your informational, educational and recreational needs. We have services and resources for people of all ages, from babies and toddlers, to youth and teens, to adults and retirees. our resources include not only books, but also audio and video cassettes, magazines, newspapers, and pamphlets.
Anyone may use these materials, but a Library card is needed to check the materials out of the Library. To obtain a Library card, you will need to bring proof of your identity and mailing address. This is usually provided by your driver's license. However, the address may be verified through a recent utility bill, a rent receipt, or personal checks, as long as the address is clearly stated. Young people under 15 need the signatures and identification of a parent or guardian to obtain their own Library card.
Our automated on-line catalog lists materials in all areas of the Library by subject, by author, and by title or part of a title. The system is designed for simplification and ease of use. The information includes whether or not the material is available for checkout, or, if it is checked out, the date it is due to be returned to the Library.
Dial In Access allows patrons to access the Roswell Public Library's holdings from locations outside the Library. To dial in, a patron needs a personal computer, a modem, and a telecommunications software program. Dial In Access is normally available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for brief periods of downtime for computer maintenance. An instructional brochure is available at the Library.
The Library is connected to the Internet and patrons may use specified Library terminals to search for information on a variety of subjects.

The Library staff is committed to providing the information you need, whether you want to explore history or hiking trails, write a novel or a resume, communicate with your Senator or your spouse, identify your ancestors or a garden pest, or repair your plumbing or your credit rating. Reference librarians are available to help you find the information and materials you need.

Reading is America's favorite pastime and it is a pleasant reprieve from our challenging-changing world. We consider the Library to be an important recreational resource; a place where children, teenagers and adults find entertaining books and materials to make their leisure hours quality time.
EXPLORE OUR SERVICES AND RESOURCES
Free programs and activities held for youth throughout the year include Storytimes and the Summer Reading Program. Watch our Calendar of Events for information on specific programs. Story/craft times are scheduled three times each week. The storytimes are:

Books and materials are available in a variety of formats and interest levels. BOARD BOOKS have bright colors and durable pages that are just right for toddlers and small hands. J EASY BOOKS range from the A-B-C and "I Can Read" books to stories that would challenge a good third grade level reader, while J FICTION are on the interest level of older children. The J NON-FICTION materials cover as wide a range of subjects as children, and adults, have interests. Taking home video cassettes and audio cassettes with read-a-long books is almost like taking Storytime home.
The Young Adult collection features books, periodicals, and other materials on topics of special interest to teens, ranging from hot rods and hot music, to drug abuse prevention and dating. The Teen fiction includes the latest works by the best selling authors.
Our Adult collection of materials provide information on a variety of subjects and viewpoints. Our special collections include SOUTHWEST books featuring the diverse aspects of our heritage in New Mexico. VIDEO CASSETTES include how-to, historical, drama, and travel. AUDIO CASSETTES range from music to self-help to Talking Books. Materials in SPANISH and LARGE PRINT make information accessible to more Library users. The ADULT NEW READERS are designed for adults who are learning to read. These are written on subjects that are interesting to adults but are not difficult to read.
